If you have a comment about my quest, or a memory of learning to fly, send it in via email. I may post it here, subject to editing.

Max,
After a look at your Flight Blog, you'll do well in the written test. In fact, before long you'll be an expert, writing and photographing more about it.
Used to be a story during our pilot training:
"Don't make us shoot you down. Land that plane."
Later heard another about carrier flying.
"Come on down here, son....land that plane. This is where the food is."
Good luck in test and solo!

Does This Head Make My Butt Look Small? --
I flew today, I was in the sim yesterday and again tomorrow. I hope to fly again on Friday. But what is really on my mind is the WRITTEN TEST. I, and my fellow classmates, have been really pouring it on for the past week; trying to cram all the facts and figures of ground school into our heads. I read the other day that using an unused and dusty part of your brain will actually make it bigger, like a muscle. I definitely think it's true, my brain is getting a real workout!
Instructor Dan Whipple reads out of the FAR/AIM, a thousand-page book of rules and regulations to cover just about any sort of issue that General Aviation pilots might get themselves into. Fortunately, we only have to know a small fraction of what is in there-- I'd say about 500 rules and procedures.
Rollover this image to see what my brain looked like before Ground School started.
The class has dwindled some, as we near the end. Seated left to right-- Instructor Dan , Eric, Keith and Ross. Paul couldn't make it to this session, Karl was taking the class as a refresher, and 'the other' Max, already passed his test with flying colors. I don't expect to do as well as he did, but I'm going to cram all weekend, and Monday, and then take it. If I don't mention it in the next FLOG entry, you'll know I flunked, and had to power-up for a go around!
If you live in Minnesota or Western Wisconsin, there is a picnic planned at Key Air on the north side of Anoka County Airport on the 24th of April. Mark your calendars-- food, displays, presentations, the newest from Cirrus, a warbird display and flyover, and the Grand Opening of Full Motion Flight Training, among other delights. Stay tuned for more info! Here is a listing of the venders so far, more to come--
